WHO WE ARE

POSITIVELY FLORIDA began producing live shows in 2010, including numerous theater productions at Atlantic Center for the Arts. Since then we’ve frequented the Root Auditorium stage at the Museum of Arts & Sciences, produced live theater at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center and the News-Journal Center, among other venues, producing 21 plays in total. Positively Florida is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Over the years, along with both innovative and traditional plays, we’ve produced four brand new plays, giving talented playwrights a chance to put their work before live audiences. If you were in the audience for The Amish Project, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Godspell, The Humans, Picasso at the Lapin Agile, On Golden Pond, or Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, you’ve seen one of our many plays in Volusia County.

We are proud to have launched a new series of music shows called New Spirit Café in the Joan Harris Theater at Atlantic Center for the Arts.  It is our goal to bring the highest caliber professional entertainment to our local audiences. We are completing our 2025 season and will have four more great shows in 2026.

Gary Broughman, the originator of Positively Florida and host of New Spirit Café, is also a recognized emcee for live poetry events, including the monthly poetry open mic at the Hub in New Smyrna Beach. In addition, he served for 10 years as editor of Cadence, the annual anthology of the Florida State Poets Association. Gary has also published scores of books for talented writers hoping to have their voices heard, and periodically leads classes such as Julia Cameron’s the Artist’s Way as part of Positively Florida’s mission.

Whatever we do at Positively Florida, we’ve tried to make it about more than simply producing live shows. We’ve made it our mission to give creative people—actors, writers, directors, musicians—a place to reach higher and become who they were meant to be. Thanks for your support.
