WHO WE ARE
Positively Florida was founded in 2007 as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) dedicated to using the arts, especially the performing arts, to carry one simple message: the power to create is a gift we’ve all been given. Along the way we’ve led classes such as Julia Cameron’s the Artist’s Way, sponsored the Spirit Café, put some 20 plays on stage, employed jazz musicians, published numerous books for talented writers, and even made a short film. We’ve chosen projects we believed would bring hope to our audiences and to the world—always going for honesty and avoiding the shallow and saccharine. We’ve made it our mission to give creative people—actors, writers, directors, musicians—a place to reach for a higher dimension and become who they were meant to be. It’s also our wider mission to help people see their lives as a work of art which they are entitled to create for themselves—to give each and every one agency over their own truth.
We continue that mission to the present day. In 2024 we produced an inspiring new musical (Riding Time with No Hands), helping Florida-based composer/lyricist Mary Beth Koplin and playwright Ed Koplin take their work from the page to the stage. In 2025 we will bring another new play to the stage, a comedy called the God Account, written by ad man Dave Warren. A new rendition of Spirit Café is in the works, and we are adding Eckhart Tolle’s Practicing the Power of Now to our class list. It’s an exciting time for us.
Gary Broughman is the founder and president of Positively Florida Inc. He is a writer, poet, editor and publisher, stage producer and director, an actor, and a teacher. His great joy in life is making space for other creatives to realize their gifts. He is pictured here with his wife, Kenice Broughman, a doctor of functional medicine, who is also a key part of Positively Florida.
